A series of architectural solutions by 13&9
The BuzziPleat delivers light and sound control with architectural edge. This series reinterprets ancient techniques used in fashion design, like smocking and pleating, to create large-scale, yet lightweight sculptural forms, made of sound-absorbing BuzziFelt.
Architectural folds maximize surface area, delivering exceptional acoustic performance. The hanging acousticpendants can be configured with or without a light source, to marry sound control and illumination in one multi-purpose product.
BuzziPleat looks a lot like the must-have fashion item of the Renaissance: the ruff. The designers at 13&9 were in fact inspired by historic sewing techniques such as smocking and pleating. These techniques could be used – before elastic existed – to make comfortable clothing with the required flexibility and stretch. When applied to stiff BuzziFelt, the fabric folds into a complex architectural form that does not require any internal support. What is more, the panel remains astonishingly light, which is an advantage when mounting it.
The architectural pleats maximise the sound-absorbent surface, thus ensuring an exceptional acoustic solution. If you hang BuzziPleat from the ceiling, you can also combine it with a light source: this comes in handy above a table or seating area, for example.
Two designs, two sizes, many colours
The collection consists of two designs; the BuzziPleat Ripple and the BuzziPleat Edel. Both can be either hung from the ceiling or attached to the wall. Each model is also available in two sizes, with 100 or 150 cm diameter.
BuzziPleat is available in BuzziFelt (OffWhite, StoneGrey, Lime or Anthracite). The finishing thread is OffWhite or Black. You can also opt to line the BuzziPleat with an extra fabric for more colour and finish possibilities.
