Papillion Pendant is part of a new perforated lighting collection by danish brand 101 Copenhagen. The lamp is designed by Copenhagen based designers Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl, who found inspiration in Mathieu Matégots way of working with sheet metal in soft and organic ways. Through experiments with mask size, light filtration and illumination, the designers chose to work with a fine mask perforated sheet metal. The characteristic lens shape adds an organic quality to the hard metal surface, while optimizing light diffusion.
Papillion refers to the French word for butterflies “Papillion”, which poetically alludes the floating lampshades as the lamps focal point. Papillion is based on a simplified Art Deco chandelier structure, with 6 illuminating lampshades elegantly positioned in a lightweight metal construction, forming the outer shape of a hexagon. The 6 light bulbs illuminate the ceiling, while Indirect light filters through the french rattan mesh and the perforated brass sheets, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere below. The 6 arms are mounted to a riffled centerpiece, adding a shimmering and reflective quality to the lamp.
Papillion comes in three variations; Brass with perforated lampshades, Oxidized with opaque glass lampshades and french rattan, colonial.
