The plates Metamorphoses have 6 different designs and is available in the following combinations of materials:
- CALACATTA AND GOLD LEAF
- STATUARIO AND SILVER LEAF
- ENGRAVING
The “metamorphoses” collection, inspired by Ovid’s famous classic narrative, recounts the mutable essence
of marble where designs created by hand interweave with the natural veins of the marble, as if in a natural canvas; a never-ending dialogue between the signs of man and the signs of time. Images portraying faces, hands, expressions and symbols have been engraved on tiles, boiseries, tables and plates, conveying their transformation into new bodies.
The designs are the work of architect, designer, and illustrator Vincenzo D’Alba of the Kiasmo group.
The designs engraved using state-of-the-art laser technique developed in workshops in Carrara, are filled with gold leaf for the calacatta version and with silver leaf for the statutario version, just like the ancient techniques used when painting marble sculptures. Gold and silver leaf are applied by hand in local workshops with meticulous craftsmanship. Some engravings are left unfilled and minimal expressing the full power of the marks on the stone.
The aim is to introduce a new product to the market that blends the timeless beauty of marble and its natural strength with the contemporary design of anthropomorphic forms to be admired on decorative walls, as evident signs of the passage of man, indelible reminders of writings chiselled by the Romans, and therefore of our history.
