An icon of modern lighting history from the early 1920s: for Midgard’s 100th anniversary, the legendary TYP 113 ‘Peitschenleuchte’ (The Whip) returns to the Midgard product catalogue. The Hamburg-based manufacturer will initially launch a special version featuring original E27 rotary switch sockets made from Bakelite (NOS – New Old Stock from the 1930s), which comes as a limited edition of 100 pieces. A special highlight: Thonet, the furniture manufacturer known for its longstanding tradition and for tubular steel designs from the Bauhaus era, has been brought on board as a collaboration partner, producing the lamp’s signature whip-shaped arm from tubular steel for this limited edition.
All components have been carefully researched and reconstructed according to the original adjustable design. In terms of the materials and manufacturing methods, the lamps are made in exactly the same way as they were in the 1920s. The components get their metal sheen from nickel plating: screws are turned and knurled and the insulator at the lamp’s shade is made of glazed porcelain. It’s this combination that gives the limited edition its outstanding technical and visual elegance. Following the limited edition, a standard variant of the TYP 113 is planned to be released.
